Market Overview
It is estimated that over the next decade the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) will spend approximately 25% of their funds devoted to infrastructure development on the expansion of the telecommunications sector. Moreover, experts in the telecommunications industry estimate that in order for the industry to reach its full potential in the region, a further investment of at least $30 billion is needed.
A recent report from Madar Research concluded that the telecommunications and broadband internet sectors will generate US$70 billion in annual revenue by 2015 in the Middle East and North Africa region. In addition, the Electronics & Computer Software Promotion Council (ESC) in India estimates IT exports to the UAE are projected to soar by 56.74% from US$542.32 million during 2005-6 to US$850 million in 2007 -8. ICT Use Index in the Arab World in 2005 was 43 percent higher than 2004 based fixed line subscribers, mobile phone subscribers, internet users and computer-installed base according to Madar Research.
